Quick & Easy Pumpkin Bento

Sometimes you just need something quick and easy for lunch on the go...Because you don't feel like making lunch or you are starving and hangry and cannot think clearly (not that I would know anything about that feeling)... either way this Quick and Easy Pumpkin Bento took 5 minutes to make!
Packed in EasyLunchboxes I put together this super simple bento for Eliana the other day. She wanted pumpkin in every section so she got it!

In the main compartment she has a pumpkin in a pumpkin patch :) A ham and cheese sandwich on pumpkin spice swirl bread cut into a pumpkin shape with a cookie cutter. May not sound appetizing together but she always takes the slices apart and eats them separate anyways :) She LOVES this bread. And so do I...its quite addicting! I could probably eat a whole loaf by myself ;) I put sliced green peppers at the bottom to represent the "patch".

In the upper right she has a pumpkin chocolate chunk cookie. DELISH. Which reminds me.. I need to make more of those!

In the bottom right she has vanilla yogurt in a pumpkin silicone cup.  I put some Jack-o-Lantern Sprinkles on top for extra cuteness factor :)
Pumpkins in every section and it took me 5 minutes to put together :)
Which is super important. When you are hangry. Or whatever..

Happy Thursday! :)

October Savorfull Box Review

It's a Savorfull Day in the neighborhood!
When our box came we were so excited! Savorfull sends you a monthly box filled with allergy free foods every month. We love that because Eliana is allergic to peanuts and some nuts and it isn't easy to get a monthly box that is allergy friendly.  It is nice and fun to be able to sample and test foods and snacks we might not have known about otherwise :) If you want more information on Savorfull you can read more in my previous post as well.

Eliana has been loving this whole MY box thing. She knows that nothing inside will have peanuts or nuts! And she can't wait to open to see what inside :)

So what came to my doorstep?
So before I go into what was inside the Savorfull October Box, let's talk about what was surrounding the goodies. The packaging.  I had said in my previous post that Eliana loved the packaging... She literally played with it all day! So this time around we made a cute Halloween Ghost Craft:
All you need is some of the Savorfull packaging, glue and black construction paper. I drew an outline of a ghost on the paper for Eliana.  She used glue and glued the packaging within the ghost outline.  She drew the face details on another piece of paper and I cut them out for her (we lost her kid scissors!) Then she glued the ghost's face on top. It was super easy to make and she loved it :) I think its a cute Savorfull ghost :)

Now back to what was inside the October Savorfull Box:
Like our previous box we got tons of pamphlets and information on living with allergies as well. I love the extra information, and we some coupons for Enjoy Life Foods! Score! :)
Here is what was inside our October Savorfull Box:

Mrs. Glee's Gluten Free Elbows -- Gluten Free Pasta. It came with simple directions on the package, perfect for the sample size. For anyone who is eating gluten free for diet purposes, or because of Celiac disease these would be great sub for pasta!

VitaPerk -- a blend of vitamins, minerals and natural flavors to mix into your cup of coffee. It is meant to to be added to your fresh coffee.. Well since I don't drink hot coffee (I'm a cold coffee drinker) I added some of the unflavored to my hot chocolate. It wasn't that bad, but I'm probably sure it tastes better in coffee. The natural flavoring adds some sweetness, so it made my hot chocolate sweeter. I may just break my cold coffee habit for one day and try the other flavors, especially since I love mocha.

Mary's Gone Crackers Organic Sea Salt Sticks & Twigs -- Gluten free, dairy free and nut free pretzel sticks. These were delicious. I loved them! I wish there had been more of them!

Mary`s Gone Crackers Double Chocolate Cookie -- A gluten free, dairy free and nut free cookie. Eliana loved this cookie! I didn't even get a bite it was gone before I knew it lol

Enjoy Life Foods Boom Choco Boom Dark Chocolate Bar -- Like I mentioned before we love Enjoy Life brand. Everything is free of the top 8 allergens and made in top 8 allergen free facilities.  Once I see their name, I can rest easy. I know it is safe. And this chocolate bar was DELISH! I would love to say I shared it.. but I didn't. I hid in my room and ate it all by myself..

Here are some of the snacks we put together from the box:
Milk and Cookies
Horizon Organic Milk and a Mary's Gone Crackers Double Chocolate Cookie

Silly Spider Snack
Spider sandwich cut with a circle cookie cutter. You can use your desired bread and sandwich fillings. We used Pumpkin Spice Swirl Bread and some cheese. Spider Legs are Mary's Gone Crackers Pretzel Sticks. Edible candy eyes and a red bell pepper mouth are added on top. Now this is a spider. It has 8 legs. I counted this time! (Unlike in my Bug Lunch LOL)

The thing that is fun about Savorfull is that you can get anything from sample size to full size products. Last month the box had full sized products.  This was a great sample sized box. It gave some good samples of products that are allergy friendly. The only problem, in my opinion, is that this box just went wayyyy to quick!  We look forward to seeing what is in November's box :)

Want to try out Savorfull??

With the promo code CREATIVEFOOD you can get:

$1 off a one month subscription,
$9 off a six month subscription or
$20 off a 12 month subscribtion!

If you do try it, I'd love to hear how you like it! :)

A Bug's Life Part 5

♪♫ Don't worry. Bee Happy ♫♪
This is A Bug's Life Lunch Part 5: Bee Happy. The final part of my self created series A Bug's Life Lunch :) I made one box of Crazy Bugs Mac & Cheese and used it in different lunches throughout that week. I chose to make all the lunches spring themed this time around. Maybe it was because I knew the weather was getting colder, but I love that these lunches remind me of spring. There is something to love about each season. And I love how spring reminds me of seeds, planting, flowers, growing, new birth, blooming and fresh starts. Refreshing and rejuvenating. :)

Bee Happy. I filled two bee silicone cups (found at Christmas Tree Shops) with the bug mac and cheese.  I used black beans as the stripes of the bees.

The two bees are flying around looking for flowers :) So I made some strawberry flowers with cucumber stems and grass. I added some bug cookies since they fit so perfectly with my spring bug theme :)

This was seriously so simple, and so easy to put together quickly! Eliana loved it! She actually loved each part of A Bug's Life Lunch. It was nice to make one box of mac and cheese and find creative ways to use it throughout the week. We may just have to do it again :)

Here are parts 1 through 4 of A Bug's Life Lunch:

Part One: A Bug's Life Lunch: Flower Power
Part Two: A Bug's Life Lunch: EasyLunchbox Style
Part Three: A Bug's Life Lunch: Muffin Tin Meal Style
Part Four: A Bug's Life Lunch: Bento Style

It is so difficult to pick a favorite but if I had to pick I think I'd say Part Three. I've never made an entire meal out of Muffin Cups-- I usually only use one or two. So it was fun to have everything in a muffin cup! I think I might have to make some more Muffin Tin Meals :) Which is your favorite?
Have you made anything fun and creative with your bug mac and cheese? I'd love to see it! :)

Halloween Bug Lunch

This lunch is brought to you by the number 8
As in 8 legs. More specifically: the fact that a spider has 8 legs. Not 6.

I had been struggling with ideas of what to make for a lunch...and then finally it came to me. I'll make a spider lunch!! Only to realize hours later (after it had been eaten) that my "spider" only had 6 legs. And to be honest it wasn't me that even realized that.. My husband pointed it out.  I mean the thought had never crossed my mind to count legs! I just stuck some pretzel sticks in her sandwich and called it a spider! Spider. Bug. Who is counting legs anyways?! (well my husband and my daughter for sure..but other than them who is counting legs!!).... soooo this is a BUG lunch or The spider who lost two legs.?! Either way I apparently now need to make a proper spider lunch sometime in the near future :)

To make this simple spider/bug lunch I made a chocolate soynut butter sandwich. I cut the oval using my circle cookie cutter. I put some extra chocolate soynut butter on top and used pretzel sticks as legs. (Be sure to use 8 if you want it to be a spider! lol) I added some candy eyes and a carrot mouth. I added some flowers on the side made of carrots and celery.  And I added some cute raisin bugs too!
Raisin Spiders Bugs. Super cute. Super easy to make. I took an uncooked spaghetti noodle and colored it with my black edible food marker. I used scissors to cut the "legs" (you could easily break it though). I stuck the bug legs into the raisin and called it day. Eliana loved them!

So head on over to the next blog (and the next, and the next) for some awesome Halloween themed food ideas! Click on the pumpkin to hop on over to Laura of El Lunch de mi Enano! [perfect way to practice that Spanish you took in high school..or just use the translator button ;)]

Frozen Pumpkin Yogurt Recipe and Tutorial

A few weeks ago Eliana and made a few batches of different pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins and pumpkin waffles (pumpkin overload! we love pumpkin!) and we had half a can of pumpkin left.  And even though I love to bake I was not going to make more cookies (at least not for another week or so lol)
So we made pumpkin yogurt. And then froze it. Into mini pumpkin shapes!
I mentioned in my post earlier this week that I was introduced to the idea of freezing yogurt into shapes by Keeley McGuire and Bent On Better Lunches this past summer. Ever since then we have kept frozen yogurt shapes in all different flavors in our freezer.  When it was hot Eliana loved to have them straight from the freezer as a snack.  She also loves to have them on top of some yogurt vanilla so she can "crunch" and "mush" them together.

To make your own Frozen Pumpkin Yogurt you'll first need to get your ingredients together.
Mix these ingredients well and fill a silicone ice cube tray. You may need to do a few rounds of freezing if you only have one ice cube tray. We decided to use this pumpkin silicone ice cube tray we found at the dollar store.
After freezing gently pop out your yogurt and it should look something like this:
You can use silicone baking cups to freeze your yogurt too. They would fit perfect into a lunchbox as well and would defrost by lunchtime. We used pumpkin silicone cups we found at Christmas Tree Shops.
After your pumpkin yogurt is frozen pop them out of the mold and place into a freezer bag or container and keep in your freezer. Take them out when needed. Or put them in your lunchbox. Simple as that! Who knew frozen yogurt shapes were that easy! :)

Frozen Pumpkin Yogurt
Ingredients:*
1/2 can of pumpkin (about 7 oz)**
1 cup of vanilla yogurt
2 tsp of ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves (optional)
1 tsp of sugar (optional)

Instructions:
Mix all ingredients together.

...and voila! that is it! You can eat it now or freeze it. We prefer the latter.

To Freeze:
*pour pumpkin yogurt into pumpkin silicone ice cube tray (or regular ice cube tray, or another shaped silicone ice cube tray)
*freeze for a few hours.
*once pumpkin yogurt is frozen you can remove them from the tray and place in a freezer bag or freezer container.
*pop a frozen pumpkin yogurt in a lunchbox or eat for a snack!

*The ingredients are estimated, and are completely flexible! Everything is optional and should be made to your taste preferences! Put more pumpkin, or more yogurt, or better yet more cinnamon (you can never have too much cinnamon!) We started off with small amounts and I let Eliana be the taste tester. She asked for more cinnamon and so I added more cinnamon in small increments until she said it was good. I would encourage you to have your kid be your taste tester too!
**Depending on which brand of pumpkin you use your frozen pumpkin can look orange, or more of a muted orange. Either way works but we prefer Libby's Pumpkin (what we used in these pictures).

I.M. Healthy Peanut Free and Nut Free Granola Review and Giveaway!

Looking for a peanut free and tree nut free granola? This new line of granola by I.M. Healthy will be perfect for you whether you have a food allergy in the home, or if your children go to strictly nutfree schools!
It is so difficult to find peanut free and nut free granola.  Believe me. I know. Most granolas either have peanuts and/or nuts in them or have traces of them.  Thankfully companies like I.M. Healthy have dedicated peanut and tree nut free facilities.  This assurance is a necessity when you have a child with an allergy.

So we got to try out I.M. Healthy's new line of granola and let me tell you: We love it!  It is perfect on top of yogurt, with fruit, or mixed in with cereal or in a trail mix-- you name it. You can use it everywhere you use regular granola, but you get the assurance of it being peanut free and nut free. High in fiber, protein, and yummyness.

Make an easy Halloween Snack:
I put some vanilla yogurt in our pumpkin silicone cups and topped it with the granola for a snack. This would be a great addition to any lunch too!  I chose to use these pumpkin silicone cups because it is pumpkin season (and we love all things pumpkin) but you can easily use any silicone cup. You can also keep the granola separate from the yogurt so that it doesn't get soggy while sitting in the lunchbox all day.  We love to use our mini dippers. By keeping the granola in a separate container it can easily be poured on top of the yogurt during lunchtime:)

Trust me. Your kids will be begging for treats instead of tricks!
Healthy Halloween Treats that is.
We decided to add some fun to our granola! In the top pumpkin I added some mini leaf sprinkles to our granola  A few sprinkles go a long way. By just adding a few sprinkles you can turn ordinary granola into fun food. In the bottom left I added some Jack-o-Lantern Sprinkles.  In the bottom right I added a few Sixlets.

And now.. onto my little pumpkin thief...
This is what happens when you are taking pictures of your granola around your 4 year old... She takes one. And replaces it with a craft pumpkin (which she made). Smart kid ;)

Right now you can only buy the granola on their website, but it will soon be on amazon. Wouldn't you like to try some of this yummy granola? Well today might be your lucky day. One lucky person will win a dozen packets of I.M. Healthy's granola! The winner will receive six packets of plain granola and six packets of fruit granola. Twelve packets of goodness.
