Back To School Bus Lunch

A Back to School Bus Lunch!
With Back to School upon us I decided to make Eliana this EASY Back to School Bus Lunch!

Packed in her EasyLunchbox, I used my Lunch Punch car cutter on a sandwich. Inside her sandwich Eliana had wowbutter, sliced banana and mini chocolate chips.  I put cheddar cheese and cucumber decorations on top to resemble a bus. She also had some cut up cucumber and sliced strawberries with the word "bus" written out.

This lunch was very simple to put together and I thought it was super cute! I say that thought it was cute because Eliana told me it did not look like a school bus, that it was just a yellow car... But I still think it is a cute bus!!! What do you think? :)

Back To School Essentials: Lunch Bag Edition

Back to School Essentials: Lunch Bag Edition
Because Eliana starts school at the end of the August I decided to dedicate this entire month to Back to School Essentials! Every week I will be sharing a different essentials list. These lists are also for me to get myself organized too, being that this is our first "back to school" experience! :)

In my first edition of Back to School Essentials I covered my personal favorite Lunchboxes.  In this post I'm going to go over my personal favorite lunch bags! Again, I'm going to start off my saying that I do not own a lot of lunch bags, nor is this a full compilation of ALL the lunch bags available out there.  I'm simply sharing my personal favorite lunch bags with you and why I like them so much. :)
My favorite lunch bags are by EasyLunchboxes, Bixbee, Skip Hop Zoo and Thermos.(numerical order is not in order of preference; I like all the boxes for various reasons)

1. EasyLunchboxes Insulated Lunch Bag
We have been using our Easylunchbox lunch bags for over a year and a half and they are still like new! I always send hubby to work with the black one every day. The purple one we haven't used as much yet. They are very easy to clean-- I usually just wipe them down because we haven't gotten them very dirty. With Eliana starting school this year we'll be thankful they are machine washable!

What I love:
*Good sized lunch bag-- can fit three EasyLunchboxes tightly, or two Easylunchboxes with drinks and an ice pack. I usually send it with one lunchbox and snacks, but I like the fact it fits more lunchboxes inside!
*It fits many styles of lunchboxes-- not just EasyLunchboxes.
*Comes in 7 color choices (black, orange, pink, purple, aqua, olive, and dark red)
*can be used for adults and kids
*machine washable
*insulated
*holds lunch upright

Cons:
*may be considered too big for some people
*may be too plain/not personalized (But in that case you can decorate it your self! For more fun ideas see HERE)

2. Bixbee Lunch Bags
We just got our Sparkalicious Lunch Bag and we love it! Bixbee Lunch Bags come in a variety of colors-- all the same design so there are plenty of choices for you!  I love how they are compact and fit everything you need in it. To see full review of the Purple Sparkalicous Lunch Bag please see HERE.

What I love:
*GLITTER! (only relative to the Sparkalicious bags)
*Color choices: Sparkalicious style in purple or pink; Signature style in blue, red, pink or purple.
*insulated
*fits an array of lunchboxes (see picture below)
From Left to Right: Lunchbots, EasyLunchboxes, Angry Birds Bento box
Cons:
*doesn't hold lunchbox upright, may be a bother to some people.
*smaller-- so larger lunchboxes will not fit inside

p.s. if you are really think this bag is cute you'll want to enter my giveaway for a chance to win a signature lunch bag! (winner gets to choose which color!)

3. Skip Hop Zoo Lunchies Lunch Bags
We have the Hippo Zoo Lunchies Lunch Bag and we LOVE it! Not only is it absolutely adorable, it is durable and easy to wash. All of Eliana's lunchboxes fit inside it (expect for the yubo which is a lunchbox and bag in itself.)

They also make super cute backpacks that match! I almost bought one for Eliana but she didn't seem to care as much for the backpack and sadly did not pay attention to my "come over here and check these out!" But that might have only been because I was looking online and not in an actual store. Hmmm.... (do you see how I am slightly trying to convince her and myself that she needs one?) ...maybe I just wish that I had these when I was a kid?

What I Love:
*cute factor x infinity!
*Multiple animals to choose from (owl, dog, cat, frog, penguin, shark, ladybug, zebra, etc..)
*durable
*insulated
*compact/smaller
*inside mesh pocket -- to put utensils or napkins
*holds different sized lunchboxes (see picture below)
From Left to Right: LunchBots, EasyLunchboxes
(other smaller boxes would fit as well)

Cons:
*doesn't hold lunchbox upright, may be a bother to some people.
*smaller-- so larger lunchboxes will not fit inside

4. Thermos Lunch Duffle Bag
Thermos has multiple lunch bags and ALL of them are awesome.  The one I use and like the most is the Thermos Lunch Duffle Bag. I mostly use it for myself, not for Eliana, but I figured I'd include it in my list.  I love that it holds my Easylunchboxes upright, and I can fit my lunch, snack, drink(s) and ice pack inside. I sometimes pack both of our lunches and snacks in it if we are going out and will be eating on the go.

What I Love:
*Large sized bag--  I can fit everything I need for lunch, snack and drinks and be all set!
*doesn't look like a "lunch bag". To me it looks more like a purse :)
*insulated
*different design options
*large zippered opening

Cons:
*size -- if you want something smaller for your kiddos this will most likely be too big
*bulky -- goes with the size. It is larger and bulkier so if you need to squeeze your lunch bag in a small space this may not work well.

*****

I know this list isn't very inclusive, especially since I am only relying on the lunch bags we have owned, have experience with and liked, but these are our favorites and they have worked for us! What are your favorite lunch bags?

Make sure to check out my Back to School Essentials: Lunchboxes list!
p.s. Stay tuned for my Back to School Essentials: Fun Food Cutters list next week!

I created this list to share my favorite lunch bags with you**

Bixbee School Lunchbox Review and Giveaway

Eliana got a new lunch bag! :)
Bixbee was generous to send us their Purple Sparkalicious Lunch Bag to review! Eliana absolutely LOVES it! Not only is it one of her favorite colors: purple, but it has GLITTER all over it! She loves anything glitter related, so she is absolutely loving this lunch bag :)

So one thing I learned and love about Bixbee is that with every backpack purchase they donate a schoolbag with supplies to a kid in need. Their One Here. One There does an incredible service.  Being a social worker myself I stand by helping those in need and I know that programs like that are vital for some kids and will help them during their school year! Sometimes just a little help and a new backpack is enough to incite some desire to learn and start the year off right and I love supporting programs that help those in need!

They have an assortment of backpacks that range in size from small to large, are great quality and are very durable.  Eliana really wanted to the Sparkalicious Butterflyer Backpack (and that one only apparently) but we sadly did find it was too small for her already. She is on the tall side but for toddlers and shorter kids it would be soo cute! I do wish they made a larger Butterfly pack that was longer in length vertically. I know their style is the horizontal design for their backpacks, to keep everything easy to reach, but that is why it was too short on Eliana.  Bixbee Backpacks and Lunch bags are available at Mastermind Toys in over 20 Canada locations, in addition to buying them online! But back to the lunch bags!!

Bixbee does refer to this as the Sparkalicious lunchbox on their site and catalog, but I prefer to call it a lunch bag because that is honestly what I'm used to calling it!

Reasons why I love the Sparkalicious lunch bag:
*Glitter, glitter and more glitter.
*AND the glitter doesn't come off -- it is "flake resistant"
*Insulated
*Has a front pocket for extra snacks or addition items
*Has a customizeable ID Card holder under the front pocket flap
*Compact/smaller
*Fits an array of lunchboxes. (see picture below)

I don't have many lunchboxes, but they all do fit into the Sparkalicious lunch bag (except for my yubo, which is a lunch bag and box in itself). For a more comprehensive list at which lunchboxes fit into the Bixbee lunch bags please see HERE.

Negatives:
*Doesn't hold your lunches up right. That really isn't a problem if you pack accordingly, but it could be a bother for some people.
*It is smaller. It would not fit a large thermos container for example.. however it does fit so many other boxes.

Having fun with our new lunch bag and getting exciting for school (starting the 28th for us!) I decided to make Eliana an Easy Back to School ABC Bento lunch:
Eliana's Easy ABC Bento Lunch is packed in her EasyLunchbox(of course she wanted the purple lid) inside her new Bixbee Purple Sparkalicious lunch bag.

She has half a sandwich (Peanut free & nut free Chocolate I.M. Healthy soynut butter with strawberry slices. I made sure the strawberries were not in view of the "A,B,C" cut outs but they are there!) I made a simple "A, B, C" cut out with my letter cutters. I added a cute little School Bus cupcake ring decoration on top of her string cheese.  The ring didn't fit over the cheese stick so I just stuck it in the middle.

In her smaller compartments she had sliced peaches (freshly picked from the farm this past weekend!) in a purple silicone cup and sliced cucumber below it.  I added a cute ABC chalkboard bento pick to the peaches.

I decided to do the "shake test" because the Sparkalicious bag doesn't hold her lunches upright and I wanted to see how her lunch would look afterwards. We packed up her lunch, zipped up the lunch bag and Eliana ran around outside with it, swinging it around and acting her normal five and a half year old self.

This is what it looked like afterwards:
Not much different actually! The peaches and cucumbers look the same because they were packed tightly to the top and didn't have much space to move.  The half sandwich moved, as did the cheese stick.  If you put a bigger sandwich or something else in the main compartment it wouldn't have moved as much.  This lunch passed our shake test! :) A more intricate bento lunch may get messed up if not upright, so when using this lunch bag I would pack simple and tight! :)

Overall, we love our new lunch bag! Eliana is excited to start school and start using it! :)

Enjoy Life Foods Decadent Bars Review

The folks at Enjoy Life Foods sent us their decadent soft baked bars to review and WOW. They were super yummy! Thankfully I got a picture before we ate them all!
All of the bars (and every product made by Enjoy Life Foods) are free from the top 8 allergens and made in a dedicated bakery that is free from the top 8 allergens. So the bars are gluten free, dairy free, peanut free, tree nut free, egg free, soy free, fish free and shellfish free. I absolutely love that assurance because it allows me to rest easy every time I see their brand name.  There are no concerns ever if it has peanuts or nuts, and there are no concerns of cross contamination so every single one of their products are safe for Eliana.
The Enjoy Life Decadent Soft Baked Bars come in four flavors: Cherry Cobbler, Chocolate SunButter, Cinnamon Bun and S'mores. And ALL of them are delicious. Since the reason we are peanut free and nut free in our household is because of Eliana's allergy I decided to let you know her opinion as well :)

Cherry Cobbler (drizzled with white chocolate on top) :
Cherry Cobbler wasn't my favorite of the four flavors, but if you like cherry cobbler I bet you would enjoy it! It has some tartness to it along with the cherries too.

Eliana: It's good. Not my favorite but that's okay!

Chocolate Sunbutter (drizzled with chocolate on top) :
You can't go wrong with Chocolate and SunButter. And have you ever tried a SunCup? A Peanut Free version of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. OH My Word. Those are dangerous. This bar is basically a suncup in a bar, so I loved it!

Eliana: I love it! (munch munch munch) These are really good! Mmmmmm! I like the chocolate frosting on top (the chocolate drizzle).

Cinnamon Bun (drizzled with white chocolate on top) :
Yummy Cinnamon Buns. I Love cinnamon buns but I can't remember the last time I actually had one. They had yummy raisins in it, which went with the cinnamon flavor perfectly!

Eliana: tfse arr gud!! :: Translation :: These are good (said with a stuffed mouth) :)
Me: What do you like about it?
Eliana: It's 'cuz I LOVE cinnamon!

S'mores (drizzled with chocolate on top) :
I saved the best for last. These bars are by far my favorite (the Chocolate SunButter ones coming in at a close second). I Love S'mores. And I can say without hesitation that I did not want to share them. But I did eventually share. Kinda.. Sorta...I just happened to put them in a place where no one could find them...

Eliana: Mommy can I try one?
Me: Try one what sweetie?

....and then I hid them all for me! muahahah! I'm kidding! Don't call foul! I will share... eventually...

With all of these bars both of us enjoyed them best as a snack with water. To me without drinking water on the side the bars left my mouth feeling dry, however Eliana had no preference. Overall we loved them. These bars are the perfect snacks for in between meals or an addition to a lunch. They are a great Allergy Friendly find and we both recommend them-- perfect for Back to School if your kids have allergies or if they go to a nut free/peanut free school! :)

Eliana's overall review: "These bars and water is like a healthy snack! Right Mommy? Not like cookies and juice. They were so good!"

So there you have it. My five year old's review of the decadent bars :)

And since Back to School is upon us we put one of the bars in one of our lunches:
The circus is going back to school! Well.. going back to school preparations certainly do feel like a circus at times so I figured it made sense :) To make this lunch I used my sandwich stampers and made two mini wowbutter (peanut free/nut free spread) and honey sandwiches. The school buses are on the Chocolate Sunbutter decadent bar road with cheese decorations on the road. Eliana has plums and cucumbers in the upper compartments. I used my circus bento picks as fun decorations and packed it all in an Easylunchbox. Eliana loved this lunch, ate every last bite, AND it was really so simple to put together! I love when that happens! :)

**Disclosure: Enjoy Life Foods sent me samples of their decadent bars for the purpose of this review.
